The House (simple) Church (planting) Project blog…exploring structure in a postmodern world
After emerging from one the darkest periods of my life, I was attending a Wild at Heart conference in Colorado where I ran into a man who told me about “house churches.” This was May 2003.
As he explained “house church” to me I felt a realease inside akin to a breath of fresh air. It was almost like feeling like a sponge that had been compressed in a shell–and then the shell is broken. The sponge undergoes a rapid expansion and fresh air rushes through its pores. (You ever seen those sponge animals in the gel capsules you put in water and…”whalla!”)
I visibly shook as the process occurred, and was moved to deep sobs. I knew that this vision was what I was created for.
Over two and a half years I studied for my M.B.A. and my M.A. Divinity (seminary) degree. I graduated in May of 2006. My research always has returned to the subject of house churches and, more broadly, the structure and “administration” (for lack of a better word) of church.
This site is my process of synthesizing all I have learned and, eventually, my reflections as I move through the practical outworking of my “project.” Interspersed will my my own ramblings and other comments that are anywhere from slightly to totally unrelated to the subject, but the will be categorized appropriately.
Eventually, this site may be “house church” specific and I will move my own postings to my personal site….but here’s to small beginnings.
